Byzantine polemology and gender studies: problem statement

Abstract:
Introduction. Article is devoted to the Byzantine polemological presentation about women (“stratiotic wifes”, stratigisses, mitt-readers, enemies etc.).
Methods. According M. Ya. Sjuzjumov’ theory of continuity traditional family was a basis of theming system, reproduction of stratiotes for Byzantine army, and guaranteed the limes safety. The article is completed to sigillographic data and prosopographic analysis.
Conclusion. Attention is paid to recommendation about military commanders and ranking warriors behavior with women by Taktika of Leo VI. Byzantine chroniclers demonstrated misogynies attitude and demonstrated fear of women perfidy and attractive. Article consist of historiographic commentary.
