Abstract:

Introduction. The article is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Air Force Academy Named After Professor N.E. Zhukovsky and Yu. A. Gagarin.  The academy includes the Cadet corps (engineering school), embodying the best traditions of Russian cadet and Suvorov education.

Content. The article is devoted to the problem of early military-professional orientation in the military secondary education organizations, traditions of cadet education and their interpretation at the modern historical stage. The authors consider cadet education as the initial link of the continuous military education, on which the foundations of the personality of future officers are laid, military values and traditions are reproduced. The article reveals the principles of cadet education, its invariable and variable features, illustrated by the example of Voronezh cadet organizations of departmental subordination. The authors refer to the invariant core of cadet education as socializing practices of military education aimed at forming values of military honor, patriotism, courage, comradeship, loyalty to military duty. The historical appearance of cadet education in the pre-revolutionary period was due to the socio-political necessity of nobility reproduction and consolidation, as well as filling the gaps in General education. Soviet Suvorov military schools partially solved the problem of mass after-war orphanhood and provided support to families who found themselves in a difficult life situation. Cadet education on the current stage is focus on different target groups, including gifted children.

Conclusion. The authors conclude that among the variety of professional trajectories for gifted young people, military service is chosen by youth with a developed military-professional orientation, who occupy an active life position, and representing the military elite’s personnel reserve.
